How durable is granite?
Granite is an extremely durable igneous rock formed over millions of years, making it exceptionally tough. In fact, it must be cut with a diamond blade.
How do I care for my granite countertop?
Blot spills and use mild soap and water for everyday maintenance. Avoid household cleaners that contain ammonia, acidic compounds, and abrasives. A microfiber cloth works great for dusting when used dry, as well as cleaning when used wet. Stop by our showroom to pick up our favorite cleaner and polisher to keep your granite countertop looking brand new.
Do I need to seal the granite?
Granite slabs are sealed from the quarry. Unless you see water marks that soak into the stone without beading, it does not need to be resealed.
Will a hot pot set on my granite countertop damage it?
Granite is magma that has cooled over millions of years on the earth’s surface. It can withstand extreme heat—even up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit!
How securely is an undermount sink attached?
Diamond Granite has the advantage of having its own millwork operation, which allows us to secure your undermount with an extra wood support in addition to adhesives.
Why do some granite countertops have tiny cracks and pits on its surface?
These are actually the natural characteristics of some stones. You have selected a naturally occurring material, not a man-made surface, which means there will inevitably be variations from slab to slab. That is one of the beautiful qualities of granite and stone that makes each countertop unique. If you’re looking for a more uniform look, consider quartz, a man-made product of quartzite and acrylic resin. Patterns tend to be more homogeneous.
Will quartz products fade in sunlight?
Yes. If part of your kitchen gets a direct sunlight, that part of the top may fade over time. Also, for this reason, we do not recommend quartz for outdoor installations.
